Re-launching the web site?

We are considering redesigning our web site. We have been looking at other sites and there seems to be many one-page sites. Why is this? I guess it must be something to do with search engines or is it just fashion?

Does anybody know?

Our site will still focus on Data Import, Data Export and file management.
